ABOUT

Therapy as a healing relationship.

Dr. Hazzard specializes in the treatment of existential concerns, post-traumatic conditions, and grief. He works with adults and older adolescents from all walks of life, and he has extensive experience working with immigrants, adults who are transitioning through middle age, emerging young professionals, artists, and people who experience various forms of psychotic process. His approach is tailored to each individual patient and generally reflective, spacious, insight-oriented, emotionally resonant, and longer-term in nature. More broadly, Dr. Hazzard views therapy as a healing relationship in which patients develop the insight necessary to engage with life in a manner that is liberated, authentic, and fulfilling. In our present era, in which technology encroaches on so many aspects of our daily lives, Dr. Hazzard also considers therapy to be a modality that helps us retain a sense of our basic humanity.

Dr. Hazzard holds a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) awarded by The California Institute of Integral Studies and a master’s degree in clinical psychology. During both his master’s and doctoral studies, Dr. Hazzard received extensive training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Most recently, he received advanced post-licensure training in existential psychoanalysis.

Dr. Hazzard’s work is informed and enriched by his ongoing study and engagement with psychoanalysis, creativity, history, and philosophy. In addition to providing therapy, he is also passionate about teaching and mentorship. He provides clinical supervision to doctoral trainees, and he teaches psychoanalytic theory and therapy at training clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area.
