OUR STORY

Why we started Unfold.

Recognizing the need for help is challenging enough — finding the right clinician should be simple and straightforward. Unfold Psychology was founded to change what that experience feels like: to offer the depth and rigor of specialized psychological care, delivered with the warmth, flexibility, and responsiveness that too often go missing in traditional practice.

Since 2016, we've grown into a multidisciplinary team, serving individuals and families across the Bay Area — from therapy and psychological assessment to forensic evaluation and executive functioning coaching. What connects all of it is a single aim: to improve your quality of life, and to support you on the journey to where you want to be.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The principles behind our care.

The whole person

We treat the full context of your life — not just a symptom or a diagnosis. Real change comes from understanding who you are and what you're navigating.

Strength at the center

Our work is rooted in building self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth. The more faith you have in your own abilities, the more fully you can engage with your life.

Meeting you where you are

We never present ourselves as cryptic or aloof. We meet you exactly where you are and support you as you move towards where you want to be — with feedback, tools, and a clear path.

Evidence-based, always

Our clinicians draw on proven, current approaches — CBT, DBT, mindfulness, psychodynamic therapy, and more — matched thoughtfully to your needs.

Access that doesn't stop at the session

Care shouldn't end when the hour does. We stay reachable between sessions, because life's hardest moments rarely wait for your next appointment.

Inclusive by design

We're proud to provide affirming, inclusive care for the LGBTQIA+ community and for everyone who walks through our doors — you're welcome exactly as you are.

THE UNFOLD DIFFERENCE

Support that extends beyond the therapy room.

Direct access

Your clinician is just a call or text away — even between sessions.

Rapid response

We prioritize your health and well-being. Expect a return call within three hours.

Flexible care

Meet us where you're most comfortable — in-home, in-office, or via telehealth across California.

Clinical expertise

Highly specialized guidance combined with empathetic, whole-person support.

Testimonials

In their own words.

Dr. Heafey has had an incredible positive impact on me. He was able to very quickly identify underlying causes for issues that my previous therapists had all missed, and we either focused on them in our sessions or he gave me referrals where appropriate. I've grown so much and function so much better thanks to all the effort he puts in. He cares deeply about his patients and will always go the extra mile for them.

Dr. Heafey and his team at Unfold Psychology is amazing. I have been working with Dr Heafey for 3 years now and it's completely changed the way I see myself and attitude towards life. The Executive functioning, run by Talia Prince was life changing. I was horrible at following through, staying motivated and life management. I noticed great change just after 6 months of the EF program. Talia is incredible and works harder for you than anyone has before. Highly recommend Unfold and the EF program for anyone struggling with life management.

Best therapist I've known. Helped me through my couple years of college and dealing with PTSD, relationships and anxiety. I am so grateful to know him and to have had him there for my care. He feels so safe and creates such a safe space for you to explore and express your emotions.

OUR CO-THERAPISTS

Sammy & Tucker.

Some of our most beloved team members walk on four legs. Our therapy dogs, Sammy and Tucker, help alleviate fear, quell anxiety, and make the room feel a little warmer — especially for clients (young and old) who feel apprehensive about therapy.

If you or your child would feel more comfortable with a friendly co-therapist in the room, just ask which days they’re working. Like everyone at Unfold, they’re here to meet you where you are.
