We offer a compassionate, supportive atmosphere to help you navigate overwhelming feelings and develop effective coping strategies to unfold your true self.

Relationships & family

Couples conflict · Divorce & co-parenting · Parenting stress · Family dynamics

We provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings openly, improve communication, and deepen your emotional connections.

Identity & personal growth

Self-esteem · Gender identity · Life transitions · Self-exploration

We provide a safe, affirming space to explore who you are — whether you are navigating a transition, examining patterns that no longer serve you, or seeking support where your identity is fully respected.

Trauma & grief

PTSD · Trauma recovery · Grief and loss

Trauma is more than just memory of the past; it is a physical and emotional weight that can impact how you make your way through the world. We offer a specialized environment focused on safety, stabilization, and reclaiming your sense of self.

Behavioral health

Substance use · Addiction · OCD

We provide evidence-based tools to help you manage debilitating symptoms, reclaim a sense of calm and control in your personal and professional life, and develop coping strategies for lasting change.

Neurodivergence & executive functioning

ADHD · Autism · Executive functioning · Traumatic brain injury

We focus on practical strategies based on thorough, insightful assessments to improve daily functioning, organizational skills, and academic or career performance.

Do you think you'd benefit from an autism or ADHD assessment?

OUR APPROACH

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

To identify and change negative thought patterns.

Mindfulness-Based Interventions

For stress management and present-moment awareness.

Psychodynamic Therapy

For deeper insight into unconscious patterns.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

For emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

To guide clients in aligning their actions with their values.

COGMED

Helping repair the working memory deficits and cognitive fatigue that often follow a brain injury.

"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves."

In their own words.

In their own words.

Dr. Heafey has had an incredible positive impact on me. He was able to very quickly identify underlying causes for issues that my previous therapists had all missed, and we either focused on them in our sessions or he gave me referrals where appropriate. I've grown so much and function so much better thanks to all the effort he puts in. He cares deeply about his patients and will always go the extra mile for them.

Dr. Heafey and his team at Unfold Psychology is amazing. I have been working with Dr Heafey for 3 years now and it's completely changed the way I see myself and attitude towards life. The Executive functioning, run by Talia Prince was life changing. I was horrible at following through, staying motivated and life management. I noticed great change just after 6 months of the EF program. Talia is incredible and works harder for you than anyone has before. Highly recommend Unfold and the EF program for anyone struggling with life management.

Best therapist I've known. Helped me through my couple years of college and dealing with PTSD, relationships and anxiety. I am so grateful to know him and to have had him there for my care. He feels so safe and creates such a safe space for you to explore and express your emotions.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does therapy cost?

Session fees range from $225–$550 depending on the service. We are an out-of-network practice, which means we don’t bill insurance companies directly. Instead, we provide superbills to make that process easy, and most of our clients receive partial reimbursement through their insurance.

Do you accept insurance?

We are out-of-network with all insurance plans. Many of our clients use out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for a significant portion of our fees. In 2025, our insurance specialist helped clients recover over $54,000 in insurance reimbursements — and that doesn’t include superbill submissions. We provide detailed superbills and can help you understand your benefits before you start.

Can I contact my therapist between sessions?

Yes! This is one of the many things that makes our practice different from traditional models. Even when your therapy visits end, the door remains open — you are always encouraged to give your clinician a call or a text. You will have direct access to your therapist, with calls returned within two hours. We are here for you.

How long will I be in therapy?

It varies. Some clients come for a specific issue and finish in a few months; others stay longer for ongoing support. We’ll talk about your goals early on and revisit them together as things shift.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes — we offer private, secure telehealth sessions to residents anywhere in California, in addition to in-person sessions at our four Bay Area locations.
